About Me

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

I have been passionate about motorcycles from a very young age. I had the typical young child experiences riding dirt bikes on and off, until I tried my first road bike. That first bike I bought at the age of 16 was a 1981 Suzuki GS 400. It was a four cylinder bike that would slurp the fuel out of the tank on any throttle twist. It was ugly, it was top heavy, but I loved it! From that point onwards, I was addicted to riding.

Over the years, I have ridden all styles of motorcycles. Everything from dirt bikes, to dual purpose, sport, super sport, sport touring, cruisers, baggers, and touring bikes. After 22 years of service in the Canadian Army, multiple deployments overseas including Afghanistan (twice), Kuwait, and Iraq, and dealing with all of the worn out joints that comes with that type of career, I am all about the comfort when it comes to my two wheeled therapy these days. The times of high speed cornering on a super-sport are LONG behind me.

While still serving with the Canadian Armed Forces and posted to CFB Gagetown in NB, I was certified as a motorcycle instructor by the NB Safety Council, under the Canada Safety Council's Gearing Up motorcycle training program. On top of training people to ride motorcycles, I have an extensive background teaching with the CAF. Everything from Communications courses, to the Principles of Marksmanship, and up to Fighting Patrols and Defensives. All of this to say that I have a lot of years under my belt as an instructor, and I still find teaching very rewarding. I am very proud of my career with the CAF, and I am extremely passionate about the motorcycle community.

I am also fortunate enough to have taught my wife how to ride, and watch her progress in her riding abilities over the years. We have done motorcycle trips all over Canada, and into Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona.

It has been an absolute pleasure to combine my love of teaching with my love of motorcycles and to be able to train new riders to become part of this ever growing community of bikers!

Our Story

The Canada Safety Council has designed motorcycle safety training for decades and has always delegated down to Provincial Safety Councils to run motorcycle courses, which was titled the "Gearing Up" course for new riders. At the beginning of 2025, the Alberta Safety Council decided to cease all motorcycle training courses as it didn't align with the future visions of the Safety Council.

This decision has left a huge gap in training availability within the Province and is the cause of more and more people to learn how to ride with YouTube instruction. While learning on your own may teach the basic concepts of riding, it will never replace the need for human interaction in an instructional environment. It was because of this decision by the Alberta Safety Council that I decided to go this route and help new riders join the motorcycle community!

SITUATIONAL AWARENESS!!

The video above was taken in July 2025 about 40 minutes west of Kamloops, B.C. This video emphasises why you must ALWAYS have your head on a swivel and be constantly aware of your surroundings. We had just missed running into this rockslide. If you look closely as we pass the slide, you will see the dust settling all around it.
