Some Bad News for LoTWINMC
Well… I did not expect this to happen. For all my past and present students that I have met over the last three months, this is going to explain a lot. For anyone else who is looking to book in the future, this will be important for you too. As it states all over my website, I am retired Army. I served for 22 years and had many experiences that are unique, but they have also taken their physical toll over the years and has caused a lot of wear and tear in my body. My right sh

The Training Motorcycles
Affectionately named "Little Pup" You will be learning on one of 2 awesome little bikes. First off, I have a 2008 Yamaha V-Star XV250, affectionately called Little Pup. This is the smallest dispacement V-Twin engine on the market, but remains a fun and agile cruiser! This bike is a perfect learning motorcycle due to its light weight, low center of gravity, and forgiving clutch. Although only a 250cc motorcycle, this bike still has enough power to get up to and maintain highwa

Attention Women Riders!
As much as I love the motorcycle community, one of the things I can't stand is the old school mentality of "Only men should ride bikes". As I am doing my best to keep this site PG-13, I will just say this: F&@k that s&#t. A motorcycle does not care what gender you are. A motorcycle does not care where you are from. A motorcycle does not care how old you are. Motorcycles only want to be ridden and enjoyed. I have taught more and more women to ride over the years so that EVERYO

June 2026 Updates
June usually signifies the time of year that motorcycle season is in full swing. Everything is in full bloom, the smells of the first grass cuts are in the air, and everyone is out enjoying their two wheeled time. And then, there is this June… I know we needed the rain after a very bizarre April and May, but as a biker, I am confidently saying we have had enough for the next while. It is time to see that mythical ball of fire in the sky (you know, that weird elusive thing peo

Little Pup is in the Motorcycle Hospital.
These are the joys of a training motorcycle. Multiple different riders, lots of RPM variances as people figure out the clutch and throttle control, on top of Little Pup being carbureted. All these factors add to a much higher wear and tear rate than how you would your own bike. The carburetor needs a good cleaning, to be re-jetted, and then tuned before it will be good to go again. I have dropped off Little Pup to the Motorcycle Hospital today, and although it isn’t classed a

Rider or Biker?
There is nothing better than a nice warm May Day to get out and enjoy some riding weather after a long (and very unpredictable) winter. This has always been my favorite time of year to ride. I love being able to get out of town and see the transition from the brown baron look of everything to leaves budding on the trees, grass turning green, and all the flowers beginning to bloom and grow. Riding along and smelling that first mow of grass, or a lilac bush bursting with the sc

Riding Weather Has Begun!
Yes, after what seemed like our 37th winter this year, we are finally seeing the warm temperatures and cool evenings that bring bikers back to the roads. We are going to be seeing our first +20 temperatures of 2026. Everyone who has lived in this area knows that our seasons can be very unpredictable, but this year has proven to set the bar for ridiculousness! 48 hours ago, it was -13. 48 hours from now, we are expecting +21. Apparently we are catching a glimpse of Spring that

The End of March 2026!
That's right, April is just around the corner which will bring the anticipated riding. We have gone through our 37th winter since December and as we approach the Easter weekend, we are finally heading into steady temperatures above freezing during the day, but still dropping to negatives overnight. Unfortunately, those negative overnight temperatures are going to delay my riding season until the frost comes out of the road. I am clinging onto the hope that we will be riding b

Spring Riding Safety Tips for New Motorcycle Riders
Why Riding Safety Matters Friday, the 20th of March 2026, marked the official first day of Spring. If you live in the Edmonton area, it felt more like a slap in the face than a day to celebrate. Last Tuesday, the 17th, we enjoyed a beautiful day filled with warm sunshine, a mass snow melt, and a lovely +16°C. We all hoped this would kick off the Spring season, but instead, we faced the typical Alberta first day of Spring. A cold morning rain followed by a colder afternoon and

MARCH IS HERE!
It is the 8th of March, 2026. As of the time I am writing this, we have exactly 11 days and 20 hours until the first day of Spring, not that I am counting or anything... Spring is so close to being officially here! If you live in the Edmonton, AB, Canada region, you will be experiencing the 90-110kms/hr wind gusts today (that's about 55-70mi/hr for our American friends) after our beautiful almost Spring day yesterday. Many regions around the Province experienced temperatures

Dear Winter,
Yes, it is that time of year that seems to have winter hanging on longer than it should. The holidays are a couple of months behind us and we are all collectively waiting (impatiently) for Spring to come. Although there are many aspects of winter that people enjoy, it is a motorcyclists natural nemesis... Unless you live in the southern hemisphere. All bikers, no matter what style of motorcycle you ride, begin to get increasingly anxious for Spring to come once we hit this ti
