Further Bad News for LoTWINMC

I have an update to my last post, and unfortunately, it is not good news…

I met with my specialist this week. He went over all the imagery from my MRI and has raised some concerns that are worse than initially thought. It is confirmed that I have a small tear in both my ACL and MCL, and I do have a stress fracture on my tibial plateau, so I must treat this like any other broken bone and allow it the time to heal. And that, believe it or not, was not the bad news.

It is the bone marrow edema that is the major issue. The bruising is so bad, and extremely deep in this bone, considering it is the weight bearing bone of the knee joint, that I am at risk of the entire joint collapsing and in requirement of a major surgery that could have me off my feet (and my bike) for more than a year.

The image above does not represent the fracture in my tibial plateau, but the area illustrated in the picture where all the fractures are is where the deepest part of the bone bruising. This is causing the bone to be extremely weak and at high risk of collapsing. Considering the location of this bruising in the bone, and to put it simply, I am completely f&%ked if this bone collapses.

What does all this mean? Well… I need to cease all bookings between now and at least the end of July. I have had to cancel my holiday next month, which was to be a motorcycle trip through the mountains for nine days, and I must be on crutches until my specialist clears me to start being able to put weight on my leg again. He has explicitly directed me to stay off my bike. Riding it is ok, but getting on and off the bike, maneuvering it, or even stopping at a red light to put my feet down can risk the bone collapsing.

For the time being, I need to cancel everything between now and the end of next month, and hopefully over the next couple of weeks I will have a much clearer picture of recovery time so I can start booking students again. If you have a booking with me over the next month and a half and have pre-paid for the training, please email me and let me know so I can refund your money. For anyone who is just using the motorcycle rental for doing their class 6, I can still help with that, but it just means I am escorting you in my truck instead of on my bike. For all other training, unfortunately, I am on hold until I get the thumbs up from my Physiatrist.

I am sorry to share this news, everyone. I am really hoping this will not be a longer term healing period than the next month and a half, because like you, this is severely impacting my riding season. I will, however, keep these Blog’s coming so everyone can stay in the loop of where everything is sitting.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out and offered their support, I truly appreciate it all.

In the meantime, ride smart, stay safe, and I will see you down the road (eventually).
