The End of March 2026!

That's right, April is just around the corner which will bring the anticipated riding. We have gone through our 37th winter since December and as we approach the Easter weekend, we are finally heading into steady temperatures above freezing during the day, but still dropping to negatives overnight. Unfortunately, those negative overnight temperatures are going to delay my riding season until the frost comes out of the road. I am clinging onto the hope that we will be riding by the 3rd week of April, but there are a couple of things that need to happen first.

First and foremost, the snow and frost has to be off the streets. I am still amazed, every single year, seeing people on a motorcycle when the roads look like the above picture. There are so many dangers in an intersection like this and I will never understand why motorcyclists think this is "good enough". Although it may look like slush, there is still ice on the road, countless layers of sand, and most certainly frost in the road. Anything and everything that represents winter in this picture needs to be avoided when on two wheels.

As everyone knows, this Province LOVES its sand on the road during winter. When the Spring thaw finally arrives, there is still multiple areas around town that are going to be heavily covered in sand until we get a couple of good rainfalls and the street sweepers are out in full force. The picture above may be a slight exaggeration to what we have, but there are still some simlarities on our roads in the Spring. Intersections are especially dangerous because they are always the most heavily sanded in the winter. If you are thinking about venturing out on two wheels and the route you planned on riding looks something like the above picture, it would be in your best interest to wait a little longer for the streets to get cleaned. There are enough dangers on the road without adding more risks by riding too early.
At the end of the day, we defintely want to see a lot more of this:

And a lot less of this:

I want everyone to have an amazing 2026 riding season and get as much two wheeled time as possible. It is an experience that brings a feeling of joy and freedom like no other vehicle, but let's do it smarlty and ride when the conditions are safe. There is no ride that is worth risking your life for, or the lives of your family and friends. The best ride a biker has is one where the rider comes home safe at the end of it.
Spring is coming and I can't wait to see you moving down the road on two wheels!
